This vital piece of the application process is critical and vital to the success of your application. While many applicants dismiss this piece, it can literally make or break your chances of moving forward.  Why?  For one, it demonstrates your communication skills.  You are writing for a reason, and believe it or not, the cover letter will get more attention than the resume. People are trained to scan resumes, they don't scan cover letters. They have to read them. So use that opportunity to say something.  Say something impressive.  But whatever you do, don't not say anything at all.

Applicants who fail to submit a quality cover letter are eliminated before the resume is even viewed.
